Playing poker

Entered an WSOP circuit event at Harrahs Nee Orleans. On a dinner break eating at John Besh’s Steak House. I don’t have many chips left. I think I am all in on the next hand after the break. LOL

Here’s a huge painting in the restaurant.

Iowa, Louisiana that is. Raining like heck. Headed to New Orleans.

I Love Bad Puns

I heard a lot of them in the past 2 days.

Here are my 2 new favorites:

  1. All the toilets in New York’s police stations have been stolen. The police have nothing to go on.
  2. Haunted French pancakes give me the crêpes.

OK, one more - A cartoonist was found dead in his home. Details are sketchy.

Weekend trip to Louisiana

Made the trek to L’Auberge du Lac on Saturday. We arrived at the casino early enough that, while all 7 poker tables were full, I was #12 on the waiting list. It took me about 45 minutes to get on a table. I bought into the $2/5 no limit game for $800.

I ended up playing for about 10 hours. It wAs a pretty active table with a lot of loose players. I picked a few spots and made some money here and there but it was a slow grind. I was playing VERY tight. In one Hand where I loosened up a bit I played a hand that’s been strangely lucky for me. The 5 8 offsuit. I was on the button. It was folded sound to me so I thought “what the hell” and raised it to $20. Both blinds called my raise. The flop came 5 5 Ace. Small blind bet $50. Big blind raised to $150. I three bet it to $400. They both folded. Dang. I was a little too aggressive. But, I did something I normally do not do, I showed one of my cards, the 5. The guy to me left was very loose and very aggressive. I wanted to make a mental investment that I thought might pay me back later. And it did. Later he raised on a flopped pair of kings and a 7. Everyone else folded. I re-raised huge with nothing. He folded and mumbled to the guy on his left, “he bet too much, he coulda had a lot of my chips” as he showed pocket aces. That 5 I showed him earlier made me some easy money.

My best hand came a little while later. I was down about $100. Dealt pocket aces under the gun. Bet $20 and had 2 callers. Flop came Ace, eight, three rainbow. I knew I had the best hand and wanted to see if the flop hit anyone else. First guy bet $20, the guy on the button raised to $100. The first guy had about $200 in chips and the button had about $300 left. I raised $550. First guy folded and the button insta-called. He had pocket 8s. My 3 aces held up.

I played for a while longer and decided it was time for sleep.

In the morning we drove to Coushatta. There were no tables playing poker so I put my name on the list. About 30 minutes later I was playing $4/8 limit. I bought in for $100 and won $100 within about an hour. Then they opened a $1/3 no limit table. I bought in for $300. That’s the most chips I had in front of me the whole session.

I came home exactly even for the weekend.

Oops. I forgot.

First I forgot to get a foot picture on the 7th hole (then the 8th and the 9th). Then I forgot to post the fact that I played some golf on Saturday.

This course was horrendous. The greens were drought ravaged. Of the 18 holes only 3 greens were without problems. Then those greens were so slow — hitting a downhill putt looked like the ball had back spin.

Thank goodness I had great playing partners. It made what would have been an otherwise bad day into a very fun time.

It’s been a while (#2)

It’s been a very long time since we’ve done a movie marathon.  In the “old” days we would go to the theater and see three or four movies in day.  Now, we pull movies out of the “in-house” collection and watch them.  Yesterday we watched Bridesmaids (what a terrible movie) I thought it would never end.   There are indeed somethings that you wish you could “unsee”.

Earlier today I picked up a couple of movies while I was at the grocery store.  My Weekend With Marilyn.  Not a bad movie. On a scale of Battlefield Earth to Bridesmaids it was a Citizen Cane.  On a scale of one to four I’d rate it a two  to two and a half.

The last movie we watched (yes, three movies — OK our movie marathons are not what they used to be), The Descendents. I liked this movie the best of all three.  The story was interesting and well acted.  The views of Hawaii and the movie soundtrack were a huge bonus, made me want to be back in Hawaii soon.

It’s a beautiful day for some march madness on the golf course.

Road Blur

I just completed a phone conversation with my gas credit card’s fraud alert department. Actually I knew it was coming. I was in the car driving for the better part of 22 of the last 48 hours.

Every time I have done this they always call. You would think that after two or three times in a year they would recognize a pattern. I guess they need to work on their fraud algorithm.
